SmartBike DC
SmartBike DC started a bike sharing program in August of 2008 with 10 stations and 120 bikes. It lasted until January of 2011. It was a joint public-private venture between Clear Channel and DDOT, and was too modest in scale and logistical design. A larger bike sharing program with 100 stations and 1,100 bikes has replaced the failed SmartBike program. This program is known as Capital Bikeshare program, and is sponsored by DDOT and Arlington County.
